Egerton Primary School Wins Unicef Gold Award

Children’s rights underpin every facet of school life

Gold is the highest level of this award, granted to schools that fully embed the principles of children’s rights into their ethos and curriculum.

Martin Russell, Unicef Assessor, visited Egerton Primary on 13^th July, and the resulting RRSA Accreditation Report highlighted how “children’s rights are embedded across the school and underpin every facet of school life.” Martin also reported Egerton’s strength in having “children who confidently discussed a range of rights and why they are important” and commended “the caring and nurturing ethos of the school, where the values of dignity and respect are lived and experienced by children and their families.”

It’s been a six-year journey!

“It’s been a six-year journey!” says Alison Hooper, Headteacher at Egerton Primary School. “We first registered for RRSA back in 2016. We achieved the Bronze Award in May 2018, Silver in June 2019 and to now have the Gold Accreditation is just wonderful.”

“It’s been a huge amount of work over the years, but thanks to a massive team effort from the staff, pupils and parents, we can now finally and proudly say, that Egerton Primary is a Gold Rights Respecting School!”

Alison goes on to say that “the main achievement, despite the wonderful accreditation from Unicef UK, is that it absolutely confirms that our pupils’ wellbeing, participation, relationships and self-esteem are at the heart of everything we do here at Egerton. It’s also very rewarding to have recognition for the positive impact we have on our local and wider community.”
